The Long Awaited (But-Not-Really-Cause-No-One-Else-Knew-Of-It) Caricatures

So I've been meaning to put these up for a while but never got around to it. (This being another night in hermithood) presents itself as a fantastic opportunity to do so (sorta). Most of these I did over the Christmas holidays, at both my Oma's 80th birthday extravaganza, church, and relatives' churches. So basically lots of old Dutch people, which consists of an interesting and ever-familiar atmosphere.



I must admit I've always thought the guy on the top left a little villainous. I'm told he's actually quite nice, but the shadows around the eyes tend to strike me as a bit disconcerting. And I love his wife's smile; technically it's a frown but it's very deep-set and the corners are like arrows, and somehow it works.



Featured top left is my brother Andrew's girlfriend, Angela. She demanded a caricature and seemed very excited about it until she saw it. On our right is the ex-janitor who, despite having yet to realize that the hitler 'stache has been passe for the past 60 years, still manages to strike terror in the young hearts of children.

I finished up my latest animation, the human body lipsynch this past week, however I've been having difficulties with exporting in Flipbook lately, so for now I'll regale you with the Walk & Run animation from last semester. Enjoy!

Age 0f Exploration

So I finished my first Maya 3D modelling object today. This happens to be a klein bottle, consisting of what is considered to be a two-dimensional topological space, with no distinction between inner and outer planes. So essentially it has one surface and no edges. They're kinda cool.



Also here's my first Photoshop painting (oh, o000ooh; talk about some landmark assignments). Anyways, the blue one is the original color scheme, the cyan-(or so I'm told)-toned one was an afterthought colour rough. I almost like it better.

Of Entropy & Other Things

I've thought up a visual diagram depicting what I perceive to be one of the discrepancies between social habits of the introvert and the extravert, in my experience. The top line represents those of the extravert in which silence is an indent between speech and conversations; a void to be filled. The line below, conversely, represents the social tendencies (or often lack-thereof) of the introvert in which a good deal of the time silence is exhibited, with the occasional rarity of a phrase emerging from below.


When people are very upset they tend to talk in thin, small voices.

I had a chance to get out to New York City with a few friends from school last weekend. Despite a lot of walking and a minor incident involving a grape juice stain down the back of my coat (not unlike a Jackson Pollock painting,Welch's being the culprit), it was an enjoyable weekend of photo-taking, food consumption, and Dutch Blitzing under the influence of Red Bull with some decent and qualitative company, not to mention an opportunity to get in a few cafe drawings.
I find I tended to gravitate towards sketching the restaurant/bar type scenes. These usually consist of more distinct atmospheres with a number of people heavily involved in football games, talking loudly or drinking away their sorrows and all that other great stuff. I think they reflect a particular aspect of human nature, though I'm not sure what.
I also drew a violinist playing under a bridge in Central Park. Violins are neat.

Animations

Well actually just one for now until I figure out how to post them larger. Does anyone know how to go about that, or is YouTube a better option? Anyways. I present to you the Weight Lift and Toss animation.

a little hodge-podge of history.

Hokay. Here are a few of my personal favouritesque pieces from the latter portion of last year, our first being that of Arnie the Ant-Eater (sitting rather dejectedly and drinking away his sorrows under the impervious eye of great uncle.. baron von-something). The second is the sketchbook cover for my most recent personal sketchbook (these tend to be more illustrative by nature and less of a work-book, though it's been a while since I've really done anything in it), the third is an excerpt from a storyboarding assignment (this is me in grade 1 and how much I loved it), and the fourth being a sketch of the room I occupied back in June when I was stuck out in Michigan (visiting some distant relatives, not to be repeated).
