Speaking In Other Languages

There was a summer when my twin sister and I tried to speak in our own language. It never worked though, because we were too lazy to actually bother about giving any words meaning - we just liked making the gibberish with some random French words thrown in.

Th'Scarf - more screenings!

Good news, mes amis! The Scarf has made it into a few more screenings, and a book!

First up, it will be playing on May 8th at the Pencils, Pixels & Puppets showcase, a Sheridan 'best of the last 5 years' at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Second, it will be in competition at the CBC's Short Film Face-Off program happening in May (televised in June, by the looks of it). So I'll be in Hali-fax for a few days where things are happening, hoorah!

And Third, The Scarf has made it into a book compilation of The Art of Short Films, which is a pretty brilliant idea for an art book and something I'm thrilled it's a part of.

Well, spring has sprung and I'm starting a new puppet.

Cities

As of this weekend I'll have been in the city for a year now. This sketch was drawn quite shortly after moving in last April (maybe even the day of). The evening beforehand I was up quite late bringing boxes to the family van, stars overhead and owls kerfuffling and all dark and quiet - the next one, sitting in a pale green room with people calling on sidewalks and the subway shaking and rumbling below. I've been identified as 'not from around here' based on a habit of smiling on transit, and - has much changed? I've met a bunch of really wonderful, wonderful individuals - I'm beginning to wonder if one might be perpetually new to the city.

I'm a featured film-maker on Film Annex this week - it's a video-hosting site complemented with ad revenue which means I get a cut from number of times the ads & films are watched, so I'd be grateful for the support to fund my next project!
